Charles Frederick Worth is the first couturier. The beginning of the entire fashion industry is associated with his name. Worth was an Englishman who arrived in Paris in 1846 at the age of 20 to try his fate. He finds a job as a salesman in a large drapery store and is making great strides thanks to his talent, and in his spare time he visits art galleries, where he is inspired by the images of women in apparels of different times.
In the store young Worth meets lovely French woman Marie Augustine Vernet, an employee of the store, who later became his wife. Worth creates for her dresses from the cloth he sells that enraptures his customers and sales are growing pretty rapidly.

Soon in 1858 Worth opens his fashion house, while his wife becomes a major fashion model who shows all his inventions. Worth is the first to sew his name to his dress putting thus the beginning of labelomania and after a while he opens the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture to protect the couturiers’ rights against counterfeiting which exists to this day and is the world's premier organization of fashion.
